Get To Know Darin

I grew up in a small rural town in Washington State, where travel between the US and Canada sparked an early love of travel. I worked as a volunteer at a school in Alotenango, Guatemala in a school for children too poor to afford the materials and uniforms necessary for the public school, traveled all over Europe sleeping most nights on a train traveling from one amazing adventure to another while attending up to three soccer games a week (Go Sheffield Wednesday, Bayer Leverkusen and NEW MEXICO UNITED!  Somos Unidos!), worked as an Archaeologist all over the Southwest and Northwest, and once hitchhiked from Anchorage, Alaska to Portland, Oregon. From my first visit to New Mexico doing archaeology near Fence Lake, New Mexico, I fell in love with the culture, people, ruins, and, of course, green chile-laden food. I spent years returning to New Mexico and working on every project that needed an extra shovel bum from academic archaeology to working with Pueblos finding and photographing petroglyphs before they are vandalized with the help of a grant from National Geographic… and falling even more deeply in love with the people and food of New Mexico.  After a motor vehicle accident that took me just under five years to relearn to walk made me rethink my prior career as a hard hiking survey archaeologist and a man who could dig a perfectly squared up three-meter long, one meter wide, and 4-meter deep trench in the desert, I decided I needed a career change. University of New Mexico School of Law was the perfect fit… as I needed my New Mexico True Green chile fix. So now, I even grow my own chiles as I have always loved gardening and on great harvest years I even offer my variety of Big Jims, Hatch, Sandias, NuMex Suave, and endless other chiles and tomatoes to clients. On the less productive years, sorry, I am keeping these beauties for myself!
